As predicted: Kohl’s in review
Steve’s breakdown: Last month we reported “Kohl’s slurps up Starbucks Marketing Exec” and we predicted an account review. We didn’t think it would be for PR but it’s close enough. And we still think the ad account is worth pursuing.
MILWAUKEE, WI: Department store chain Kohl’s is conducting a competitive review for a PR agency partner.
It is understood that Kohl’s is seeking a firm to handle all PR efforts for the brand. The review, which is nearing its end, is also understood to be led by agency search and management company SelectResources International.
Representatives from Kohl’s did not respond to numerous calls and emails seeking comment, and representatives from SRI declined to comment on the search process.
Cramer-Krasselt has served as the company’s incumbent agency for more than seven years. Representatives from the agency declined to comment on the review.
Earlier this month, Kohl’s donated $1.5 million to Junior Achievement of Wisconsin to add more technology to the Junior Achievement Kohl’s Education Center, which the company funded in 2010 with a $3 million gift. The group helps children from grades four to 12 learn about finances, entrepreneurism, and careers.
The chain reported a 1% revenue drop, year-over-year, to $4.2 billion in the first quarter of 2013. It also posted a 5% decrease in net income in the period.
