Corporation Bank scouts for creative agencies again

Steve’s breakdown: This account was awarded to BBDO just 14 months ago and here they go again. (And judging by the creative, I don’t blame them.) If you were in the last pitch, get in this one ASAP.

DELHI, India: In an interesting development, Corporation Bank has called advertising agencies for empanelment once again. The nationalised bank has called for a pitch just months after resting its duties with RK Swamy BBDO, Goldmine Advertising, Ad Syndicate and Magnum Intergrafiks in February this year. The bank had initiated the pitch in October 2010.

Eligibility criteria for the agencies to apply for the pitch this time includes INS accreditation, presence across cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore, annual billings (turnover) of Rs 15 crore and above for the last three years and good experience of handling public sector bank accounts. The applicant agency should have at least one public sector bank account in its current portfolio. The bank would shortlist agencies on the basis of credentials after which they would be called for presentation.

Corporation Bank usually reviews its creative duties every 2-3 years. Sources informed that the reason behind calling for a pitch early was due to changes in the bank’s senior management.

For the record, Corporation Bank had launched a new campaign targeted at the youth earlier this year in March, bringing on board Commonwealth Games and Asian Games athletic icon Ashwini Akkunji. The bank, however, had to withdraw all its communications after the athlete failed a dope test in July 2011. The campaign, which had hoardings of the star with her gold medals, was quickly withdrawn by the bank.
