Greek tourism seeks PR agency for US & Canada
NEW YORK, NY: The Greek National Tourism Organization has issued a review for a PR agency to promote the country among US and Canadian travelers.
Greece is in the process of reviewing firms in the US and Canada, said Manos Christodoulakis, a representative in the information and promotions department of the organization. He said Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni is visiting the US and Canada this week as part of the review process.
Christodoulakis said the tourism group has not had a PR firm in the US or Canada in a long time, but did not disclose additional information about the review.
The Greek National Tourism Organization operates under the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a government department.
Greece, which has been in a debt crisis since 2009, received a $2.26 billion bailout loan from the International Monetary Fund on Saturday. Since it was locked out of international bond markets in 2010, the nation has received more than $250 billion in loans from the IMF and other European nations. Twenty-seven percent of the country’s citizens are unemployed.
During the May 29 general assembly of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said income from tourism will soon reach a record high. The high-water mark will be a “victory for the tourism sector in which hundreds of thousands are employed, yielding income that is being distributed in all society,” he reportedly said.
