Insurance Giant in Review

Steve’s breakdown: State Farm has worked with Weber Shandwick for nearly a decade but the winds of change are in the air.

BLOOMINGTON, IL: Insurance giant State Farm, which consolidated its marketing business with Omnicom early this year, is reviewing its PR duties.

According to sources, the process involves the company’s relationship with Interpublic’s Weber Shandwick, which has served as State Farm’s lead agency for nearly a decade.

Bloomington, IL-based State Farm declined to disclose details when asked for comment.

“State Farm works with many vendors to provide solutions to meet our customers’ needs. Those relationships continue to evolve,” the company said in a statement.

State Farm consolidated the majority of its marketing work with Omnicom at the start of this year, according to an AdWeek report, following the lead of another corporate giant — McDonald’s. DDB and OMD reportedly retained their positions as lead creative and media agencies.

As the US’s largest property and auto insurer, State Farm has a hefty marketing spend; In 2016, the company reportedly spent $726m.
