BALTIMORE, MD: The Maryland Office of Tourism (OTD) is the state agency responsible for marketing Maryland to a variety of audiences including: in-state and out-of-state travelers, and the travel trade about the state’s attractions, accommodations and services to increase visitor spending in the State.
This is accomplished through providing residents and out-of-state visitors with information and services to ensure a positive trip experience; and positioning Maryland as a competitive destination.
OTD’s effectiveness is measured through increased number of visitors, visitor length of stay and visitor expenditures. Maryland welcomed 40.47 million domestic visitors in 2015. The average duration of a visitor stay in Maryland is 1.3 nights. The average visitor spending in Maryland is $303.00 stay. Maryland visitors spent $16.4 billion on travel- related expenses in 2015, which generated $2.2 billion in state and local taxes that saves each Maryland taxpayer $1,010 yearly. A current Annual Report and Marketing Development Plan may be found online at http://industry.visitmaryland.org/.
The OTD’s total annual FY 2017 Marketing Budget is anticipated to be approximately $3.3 million, $700,000 for Functional Area I which includes the monthly fee plus production and hosting services, and $2.6 million for Functional Area II- Media Placement which includes the monthly fee plus media placement. It is anticipated that the annual budget over the five (5) year Contract term for these services will remain approximately the same. The Department of Commerce’s Marketing Budget may increase or decrease at any time during the Contract period with all terms and conditions of the original Contract subject to and contingent upon required State approvals and Maryland State Legislature appropriating funds for this purpose. Amounts provided within the RFP are estimates only and are not a guarantee of any minimum or maximum amounts under this Contract.
