Glenfiddich Malt Master’s Edition to launch
Steve’s breakdown: Now that we are looking closer into the spirits biz because a subscriber asked us to, we’re seeing there is more movement than we thought in the category. Mostly with product launches that could help an agency get into a category. Here’s another example:
DUFFTOWN, Scotland: Glenfiddich Distillery, a Scotland-based Speyside single malt Scotch whiskey distillery, is to release a new whiskey – Glenfiddich Malt Master’s Edition – in the US in September 2012.
Created by Glenfiddich Distillery malt master Brian Kinsman at a warehouse in the Dufftown, Scotland, the expression undergoes double maturation process in both Sherry and Refill Bourbon casks to form a complex taste and flavor that is imparted from two different woods.
The 43% ABV limited-edition expression possesses vanilla and smoky embers touch, spicy and fruity character of plum and cherry with hints of toasted almond and wedding cake.
Kinsman said Glenfiddich established the single malt Scotch whiskey category in 1963, when they became the first distillery to export the spirit outside Scotland.
“I am proud to launch the Glenfiddich Malt Master’s Edition as a tribute to the pioneering history that goes into each and every bottle of whisky we produce,” Kinsman said.
Glenfiddich has produced only 18,000 bottles of the whiskey, which will be available in select retail outlets at a retail price of $79.99.
