LONDON, UK: The BBC is searching for an agency to handle all the media planning and buying for a range of its departments including local radio, the Proms, the iPlayer and TV licensing.

It is the first time a contract, worth up to £6m a year, has been put out covering its Marketing & Audiences and Licence Fee Units.

The corporation said the move will “improve financial efficiencies”.

The winning agency will work closely with the BBC’s media engagement team to plan and buy of all non-BBC media. Agencies will be asked to demonstrate “strong digital and specialist media capabilities”.

Simon Lloyd, director of media engagement and marketing & audiences North, said: “The type of media bought by the BBC has changed over the last few years, with a steady rise in digital space and outdoor media. More than half of the media bought by BBC Marketing & Audiences last year was digital, giving us the opportunity to communicate with our audiences using display and mobile channels.”

Interested agencies must submit a pre-qualification questionnaire by January 25. A shortlist will be invited to formally tender for the business in March 2012.
