NEW YORK, NY: Comcast Platform Services (CPS) is the leading vendor of monetization and distribution technologies for the new TV ecosystem. CPS is comprised of the distinct businesses of Comcast Wholesale, including thePlatform, FreeWheel, Visible World, Strata and Comcast Advanced Advertising. While each company currently retains its own brand in its respective market segments, Comcast Platform Services is a unique portfolio brand who’s branding and marketing must inform and accrue to the benefit of, yet be separate from, those underlying brands.

The Chief Marketing Officer is a dynamic leadership position that will provide strategic direction for brand marketing and communications for CPS. This position will own the CPS brand and provide consultation to the CPS SLT on branding and related matters with respect to the CPS brand and underlying company brands, which will continue to be owned by the respective marketing leaders within those companies.

This position is charged to enhance the visibility, reputation and market narrative of CPS brand through the development and integration of proactive communications, and the coherent, well integrated, marketing campaigns/internal and external communication strategies in support of its vision, goals and objectives.

The CMO has responsibility for the general marketing, communication and branding of the CPS businesses as well as oversight of internal and external publications, including electronic communication technologies, website and visual brand, presence at trade shows and events and all other communication media and forums useful to the promotion of the CPS brand. This position develops creative strategies, writes content and identifies concepts for a wide variety of media to promote the visibility and enhance the reputation of the CPS businesses. The CMO will also play a leadership role in emergency and crisis communication efforts, should the need arise. In addition, the CPS will serve as the point of coordination between the CPS portfolio companies and EPS Communications, Comcast Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, periodically being responsible for creating a coordinated communications calendar for CPS and the underlying companies that is shared with and vetted by Comcast corporate stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who excels at generating and executing original ideas and opportunities to raise the profile domestically and globally within the Television Advertising Industry. This leader will work to proactively articulate the unique values, culture, accomplishments, and significant contributions to key internal and external stakeholders-including current and prospective clients, the media, the TV advertising industry, and global thought leaders. The CMO will make decisions quickly resulting in favorable outcomes; with a track record of successfully working within complex and diverse organizations and working in a fast-paced environment of development and change. The CMO will facilitate decision-making in a collaborative environment with diverse stakeholders resulting in solutions in alignment with the CPS mission and objectives.

Strategic Marketing & Communications: The CMO will develop and implement a proactive, coordinated marketing communications framework that enables CPS to communicate with a differentiated and distinctive voice externally and internally. This framework will strategically inform, engage, and excite national, regional, and global audiences.

  • Develops and executes a strategic brand, marketing and communications plan that supports acquisition, branding and initiatives; enhances the image and reputation and executes mission-critical events and programs in alignment with the goals of the organization.
  • Prepare status reports and written materials, providing historical and forecasting information, with recommendations beyond execution and implementation.
  • Acts as the primary CPS communication liaison during times of emergency and/or crisis, for both the internal and external constituents.
  • Oversees communication and marketing initiatives, including public relations, web, advertising, marketing, trade shows, photography and video services and internal communications.
  • Writes, edits and produces critical collateral materials.

Collaboration and Relationship Building: In an environment that is highly relationship driven where success is heavily dependent on collaboration among a broad range of internal and external constituencies, the CMO will build trusted relationships at Comcast and across the CPS division. In a decentralized environment, they will work to gain buy-in for an integrated marketing and communications strategy that inspires confidence and significantly advances the reputation and brand of CPS, consistent with the overall Comcast brand. The CMO will embrace the values, ethics and operates in a manner of unquestioned integrity.

  • Identifies and builds relationships with a wide range of key constituencies, including business leaders/founders, corporate marketing and finance, business unit marketing and operations leaders, and senior executives.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and business leaders to develop congruent messages that align the interests of Comcast and CPS businesses/divisions.
  • Works closely with each business to promote the marketing needs of each business.
  • Chair the bi-weekly CPS marketing council, comprised of the individual marketing leaders of the portfolio companies within CPS and be responsible to the CPS SLT for leadership on relevant initiatives within this group.
  • Overall coordination with EPS and Corporate Communications for all relevant marketing and communications activities, including periodically creating a CPS communications calendar comprised of the underlying branding and marketing activities of the CPS brand and the portfolio companies for communication to and approval.

Organizational Management: The CMO will be a visionary, hands-on manager and team builder who motivates and leads by example in a player/coach role. This leader will be equally comfortable developing macro strategy and executing tactics. S/he will demonstrate particular prowess in structuring, supporting, and developing a dedicated, cohesive team of professional who will set a marketing and communications standard that others are excited to follow.

  • Leads a creative team in the execution of the plan that will grow the business as well as address other stakeholder needs.
  • Establishes, monitors and manages outside vendors that serve to enhance the brand in a marketing/communications capacity.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Business, Marketing, Communications or other related field
  • Minimum of 15 years of leadership experience in the marketing and/or communications field with documented results of industry top-quartile performance
  • Minimum of 10 years leading direct report team and matrix/complex indirect reporting relationships requiring influencing skills
  • Prior experience aligning a marketing and communications function for optimal service and support within a highly decentralized and diversified environment where multiple competing priorities must be considered.
  • Superb writing and editing competency with demonstrated leadership, management and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information, balance the interests of multiple parties, and act in a decisive and timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability and commitment to managing, developing, mentoring, and coaching a staff of professionals with a proven track record of creating communications and marketing strategies to sustain profitable growth and success into the next generation of the television advertising industry
  • Demonstrated ability to execute prioritization, organizational and time-management skills and demonstrate initiative, flexibility, professionalism under pressure and self-directed approach with the ability to manage in crisis situations.
  • The successful candidate must have the ability to function independently as well as to cultivate and maintain mutually respectful, productive working relationships among members of the business and industry relationships (internal and external) and must demonstrate the ability to develop, manage and support a creative team that produces targeted results.
  • Proven ability to lead media relations, crisis communications, and issues management for a highly reputable, national enterprise.
  • Prior experience aligning a marketing and communications function for optimal service and support within a highly decentralized and diversified environment where multiple competing priorities must be considered.
  • A strong grasp of the latest marketing and communications channels and trends (social media, interactive portals, etc.) and tactics for effective use of each.
