Sometimes people launch companies without a clue: Maybe you can help
Steve’s breakdown: The “Mucc!” is launching his own media company. Not that I care but maybe one of you smart people can keep this boat afloat before it hits the water.
NEW YORK, NY: Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci officially launched his new media company at a Monday night event.
At the New York event, the former hedge fund manager declared that “we have no idea what the Scaramucci Post is and neither do you. But, we launched it today and we launched with great fanfare and so we’ll have to see how the whole thing unfolds.”
While the event was initially billed as a launch party for his new media endeavor, he told reporters mid-day on Monday that it would instead be a round-table discussion to talk about how we “move forward” after the mass shooting in Las Vegas. It ended up being a low-key party and part-press conference.
Scaramucci took questions from reporters in the basement of his midtown restaurant for about 40 minutes where he outlined his vision for his new media endeavor.
He said that the Scaramucci Post would be a millennial-first media company that would distribute its content natively via social media platforms. He has no plans to launch a website anytime soon, but says that he will eventually hire reporters.
In terms of the type of news the Scaramucci Post will publish, he said that it would be true centrist, informative content. He said that right now media companies are either serving the left or the right, he hopes to be “a middle lane” on the information super highway.
“What the president did very successfully during the campaign is he went directly to the American people,” Scaramucci said, adding he hoped to do the same thing. “It’s going to be plain vanilla news that is unfiltered, cold brew news, if you want to say.”
Trump has issued harsh criticism against leading news outlets, calling The Washington Post and New York Times “fake news.” Scaramucci said that his new venture won’t cover the president himself directly so he doesn’t see any conflict of interest, rather he hopes to “focus on the issues.” He said the Scaramucci Post will have editorial standards and fact checkers to prevent spreading false news itself, but that he will “100% get things wrong sometimes.”
As for what the actual company will look like or when it might have a website Scaramucci said, “actions always speak louder than words, so watch it unfold.”
Scaramucci spent 11 days in charge of the White House’s communications this summer, leaving shortly after the hire of former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly as Trump’s chief of staff.
