Steve’s breakdown: This ex-client of mine while she was at Verizon, seems to be taking a hike from Office Depot. (she bailed back then too)
So now we think there’s an opportunity for a retail savvy agency. Read on . . .
BOCA RATON, FL: Office Depot Inc is on the hunt for a new marketing chief after confirming the imminent departure of Jerri DeVard.
DeVard joined Office Depot in September 2017 as Chief Marketing Officer, a role that transitioned into that of Chief Customer Officer with responsibility for the e-commerce business as well as the marketing, communications, customer relations and customer service functions. In a regulatory filing, Office Depot confirmed that she would be leaving the company effective 16 March.
DeVard was instrumental in the transformation strategy undertaken by then-new CEO Gerry Smith at the beginning of 2018, and formed part of his “world-class team” to execute on the plan to create an omnichannel platform for business services and products.
That plan – which was explained during an investor conference in May 2018 – included retail transformation, and DeVard’s team was behind the launch of the Workonomy small business services brand. The future of that initiative in stores would appear to be under question following what appears to be a shift in Office Depot’s strategy towards ‘optimising’ – as opposed to transforming – its retail network.
