Casino del Sol Resort to open 11/11/11
TUCSON, Arizona: Sol Casinos is looking ahead to the planned opening of its new casino resort in November with an eye toward employing more tribal members in management.
Sol Casinos has more than 1,100 employees, about 57 percent of whom are Pascua Yaqui tribal members.
The new 215-room, 161,000-square-foot Casino del Sol Resort, Spa and Conference Center, scheduled to open Nov. 11, will provide 350 new jobs.
The casino operation has adopted a policy of positioning tribal members in senior leadership positions in every department of the casino enterprise, Sol Casinos CEO Wendell Long said.
For example, tribal member Alex Amador was recently named assistant director of marketing, after holding various financial positions since joining Sol Casinos in 2004.
