$15 million tech client is forced to hire new CMO
Steve’s breakdown: HP is a blue-chip client that just lost its CMO to Facebook. Will the new guy what to make his mark on the company in a very public way? Most do so a call of congratulations is in order to start the conversation.
PALO ALTO, CA: HP Inc. announced that Vikrant Batra will succeed Antonio Lucio as its chief marketing officer (CMO). HP also announced the promotion of Karen Kahn, chief communications officer and head of communications, corporate brand and events to the executive leadership team. Both Batra and Kahn will report to president and chief executive officer Dion Weisler. Lucio will depart HP on August 31 to take on the chief marketing role at Facebook.
Batra was most recently global head of marketing for HP’s $19b Imaging and Printing group, and previously led marketing globally for the company’s $33b Personal Systems group.
“The appointments are symbolic of the deep bench of talent within our Marketing and Communications organizations. Our corporate reinvention over the last several years has been fueled by the remarkable power of our brand – in our marketing leadership and emotional connection to our customers, and in our corporate narrative and purpose-driven positioning,” said Weisler.

Batra has more than 20 years of experience in worldwide marketing and advertising across consumer packaged goods, utilities, finance and technology. He is an award-winning creative and marketing strategist and is the architect behind some of HP’s most important campaigns. Batra has held a variety of marketing leadership roles since joining HP in 2010. He is credited with spearheading the business’ shift to emotional storytelling – an approach that is anchored in insights, generates deeper connections with the global communities and drives demand. In this role he led all aspects of worldwide, regional and country marketing. Under his leadership, HP Studios released the ‘The Wolf,’ a breakthrough web-based film series on security starring Christian Slater.
