Changing of the guard at Under Armour

Steve’s breakdown: I know what you’re thinking. Droga5 killed the awards with this client. But I ask you, couldn’t you if your client sponsored Micheal Phelps and the USA women’s gymnastics with a budget as big as a house?

BALTIMORE, MD: Under Armour has named Kip Fulks, currently chief marketing officer while juggling other responsibilities, its new chief product officer. The Baltimore sports apparel company also hired Colin Browne to be its president of global sourcing and Andy Donkin as chief marketing officer. Both new hires will report to Fulks, the company announced Thursday.

Fulks, CEO Kevin Plank’s first partner at Under Armour, has served in several top leadership roles with the company over the years. Most recently, Fulks took over responsibilities on an interim basis for former Chief Merchandising Officer Henry Stafford, who left Under Armour in July.

“I am extremely proud to appoint Kip Fulks to chief product officer. As my first partner, Kip has played an instrumental role in building the Under Armour brand and has demonstrated superior leadership across the organization for the past 20 years,”said Plank.

As chief product officer, Fulks will be in charge of managing the brand’s product categories, marketing efforts, merchandising and sourcing, the company said.

Browne, who has more than 25 years of experience with sourcing at multibillion-dollar brands, was most recently at VF Corporation as its vice president and managing director, where he led the company’s sourcing and product supply organization in Asia. Browne will join Under Armour on Sept. 6, the company said.

Donkin is coming to Under Armour from Amazon, where he was the head of worldwide mass and brand marketing, managing the company’s media budget and running campaigns for North America, Europe and Asia. Donkin worked on campaigns for Amazon Prime, Amazon FireTV (streaming), Amazon tablets, Amazon Kindle, Amazon Echo and Amazon retail. He will start at Under Armour on Aug. 22.
