Medical manufacturer’s new CMO and we don’t mean “medical”
Steve’s breakdown: Medline is a $4 billion company with lots of clients you wouldn’t mind having. They also make a bunch of packaged treatments. So yeah, check into it.
NORTHFIELD, IL: Medline, a global manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies and clinical solutions, announced today the promotion of Lesly Marban to chief marketing officer. In this role, Ms. Marban will oversee Medline’s overall brand strategy focused on finding new ways to reach and engage customers to help position the company for continued growth. Managing an in-house team of more than 100 people, she is responsible for leading market insights, creative, digital, mobile, ecommerce and PR.
Ms. Marban has been with Medline since 2011. Most recently, she served as senior vice president of marketing for the U.S. post-acute care market. Under her leadership, Medline recorded 11% CAGR growth of a diverse $1.5 billion portfolio by developing effective customer engagement strategies and tactics, working closely with key industry influencers and Medline’s more than 250 post-acute sales reps. Her emphasis on creating value beyond product and meeting customers’ needs led to Medline’s growth in post-acute care.
“You have to understand the customer and the issues they face by putting yourself in their shoes,” Ms. Marban says. “When you see their world through their eyes, you can offer them more than just products, you can offer them solutions.”
She also believes that in healthcare today, marketers no longer can focus purely on product features, pricing and trials. Because of the constantly changing industry environment, they must be able to listen, adapt and respond to what’s resonating with the customer. As a result, Ms. Marban is investing in new marketing tools, technologies and training that bring her team members closer to the customer. She encourages them to spend time in the field with sales reps to interact with customers and gain firsthand knowledge of their struggles.
“The CMO role in healthcare is more challenging than ever before,” says Andy Mills, president, Medline. “Lesly’s more than 17 years in healthcare combined with her tireless commitment to our company, her team and our customers made her an obvious choice.”
Ms. Marban is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a degree in accounting and a master’s of business administration from DePaul University, and resides in Hawthorn Woods, Ill., with her husband and two children.
