Medical Mutual’s CMO retires and the new blood is in

CLEVELAND, OH: Steffany Larkins is the new chief marketing officer at Medical Mutual, following the announcement that Jared Chaney, who has held the job for more than five years, plans to retire in 2017.

Chaney will continue in his other position as executive vice president and chief communications officer for the Ohio-based health insurance company.

The change went into effect at the start of 2016.

“The reason we are making this change more than a year and a half before Jared retires is simple: It’s too important of a position to move any quicker if we don’t have to,” said Rick Chiricosta, Medical Mutual chairman, president and CEO, in a statement. “And, selfishly, I will have the best of both worlds in Steffany taking over and Jared being here to support her and the sales division in any way that’s needed.”

Larkins, who joined Medical Mutual in 1998, most recently was Chiricosta’s chief of staff. Other roles she has held at Medical Mutual include vice president of finance, chief underwriter and chief diversity officer.

She will continue to lead the company’s Health Informatics area, according to a news release. The search to replace her as chief of staff will begin soon.

Chaney, who joined Medical Mutual in 1997, was previously senior vice president and general manager of the San Francisco office of Hill and Knowlton, a public relations agency.
