Wendy’s marketing head to run national pizza chain
Steve’s breakdown: A hiring this big has to mean there are more big changes coming. Look for Ken to do a top-to-down review of much of the chain’s operations, especially marketing.
VANCOUVER, WA: Ken Calwell, chief marketing officer for Wendy’s International, has been hired as president of Papa Murphy’s International, which operates the Vancouver, Wash.-based take-and-bake pizza chain.
Calwell, who oversaw Wendy’s new-product development since taking the position in 2008, was formerly chief marketing officer and executive vice president of research and development for Domino’s Pizza.
Wendy’s spokesman Denny Lynch said David Karam, Wendy’s president, will take over management of marketing and research and development until a replacement for Calwell can be found. Wendy’s/Arby’s CEO Roland Smith will lead the company’s creative direction, he said.
