5 o’clock Friday’s Ad Land: Read and follow the brief
Hooray! It’s 5 o’clock on Friday and that means it’s time for our weekly installment of AdLand by cartoonist and CCO at Third Street, David T. Jones.
This week’s cartoon reminds me of a true story about one of the biggest new business rules I ever learned: Read and follow the brief.
It was 1994 and I was working on the 63rd floor of the Chrysler Building at Charron Schwartz & Partners. I got us in to pitch the US News & World Report ad account. Not a big deal but highly visible and my second pitch ever as a new business director.
They gave the partners the brief which basically said their magazine competed with Fotune and Business Week – not Newsweek and Time.
Here’s the image that was the center piece of our pitch. Go ahead and ask me what happened next!! Go Ahead.
