MasterCard CMO Retires
Steve’s breakdown: They are going to put Tim Murphy, MasterCard’s chief product officer in the spot while they search for a replacement. Sounds like a good time to make friends.
PURCHASE, NY: MasterCard today announced that Alfredo Gangotena will retire as the company’s chief marketing officer, effective September 1. Gangotena, 60, has been with MasterCard for nine years and has held the top marketing role since April 2010.
Tim Murphy, MasterCard’s chief product officer, will add oversight of marketing to his current responsibilities on an interim basis as the search for a chief marketing officer is conducted.
As chief marketing officer, Gangotena led the company’s advertising, sponsorships, promotions, research and digital marketing initiatives. He also was a member of the company’s Operating Committee.
“I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Alfredo for nearly a decade, and I want to thank him for all he has achieved and accomplished at MasterCard,” said Gary Flood, president, Global Products & Solutions. “As a result of excellent work led by Alfredo and the entire global marketing team, our brand has never been stronger.”
Prior to his role as chief marketing officer, Gangotena was the Global Products & Solutions lead and general manager for MasterCard Europe. He also held the role of general manager for Continental Europe and the SEPA Region. Previously, Gangotena was the senior vice president and general manager of the MasterCard Asia/Pacific Region.
